The government is working towards a no-deal Brexit; the aim is to leave the EU on 31 October 2019. If this goes ahead, then UK businesses need to be aware of how this will affect them.
This is particularly important for businesses having to apply customs, excise and VAT procedures to trade with the EU, in the same way, that already applies for goods and services traded outside the EU.
Businesses will need an EORI number if they plan to move goods in or out of the EU. Without an EORI number, you may not be able to move products which could result in increased costs and delays.
What is an Economic Operator Registration and Identification (EORI) number?
An EORI number is a 12-digit number issued by the HMRC. It is needed now if you are going to send goods to or from the EU. It needs to be quoted in all documentation, for example, customs declarations and clearances. The EORI number is used by and is used by customs systems as an identifier.
If you do not have an EORI number, your good could be held up in customs.
