At Watson Knipe in Ravenshead, Dawn plays an invaluable role as a dedicated and skilled bookkeeper. With her expertise in bookkeeping and VAT support, she has become an integral part of the team, ensuring that clients remain informed about their corporation tax liabilities and managing various financial tasks with precision.
Dawn's journey as an accountant is one of dedication and continuous learning. In 2023, she proudly completed her AAT qualifications, solidifying her position as a fully qualified accountant. Her role at Watson Knipe focuses on ensuring that the bookkeeping processes run smoothly, from handling purchase invoices to maintaining customer ledgers. She also handles the submission of VAT returns, with an eye for detail that ensures everything is meticulously in place.
Before joining Watson Knipe in January 2024, Dawn accumulated 17 years of experience working for a payroll bureau. There, she managed payroll for a range of clients, gaining hands-on experience that she would later apply to her bookkeeping role. During her career, Dawn balanced both professional growth and personal responsibilities, including raising two children. Her commitment to her career didn't stop there—during the pandemic, she decided to upskill by returning to college and completing the ATT Levels 2, 3 and 4 accounting qualifications.
Her journey into bookkeeping began with her husband’s business, where she managed the financials, chasing debtors, and taking care of day-to-day bookkeeping needs. This experience eventually led to her current role at Watson Knipe.
One of the challenges Dawn faces in her role is the variety of software and systems she navigates. From using software such as QuickBooks, Xero, Sage, FreeAgent for accounting to adapting to spreadsheets depending on the client’s needs, Dawn’s ability to switch between systems is a testament to her versatility and attention to detail. Whether it’s for small businesses or limited companies, her familiarity with various sectors enables her to handle different types of clients with ease.
Dawn works with a wide range of clients, including retail businesses, IT consultants, coaches, and even garages. While her focus is on limited companies, she also assists sole traders, ensuring that each client’s specific financial needs are met.
Dawn’s admiration for Watson Knipe shines through when she speaks about her colleagues. Working alongside Sarah and the rest of the team, she feels supported in her role. She highlights the importance of a positive, helpful atmosphere, which not only benefits the team but also ensures that clients receive the best possible service. Dawn continues to learn from her team, appreciating their vast experience and the supportive environment.
Outside of work, Dawn is a devoted mother to two children, aged 17 and 13. Family life keeps her busy, but she also makes time for her personal passions. Dawn is a lover of contrasts—while she enjoys the peace and quiet of the countryside, she is equally drawn to the energy and excitement of city life. London is her favourite destination for short getaways, where she relishes the buzz of the capital’s streets, shops, and restaurants. At the same time, she loves walking in Derbyshire, finding tranquillity in nature away from the daily rush.
Dawn exemplifies the ideal combination of professional expertise and personal warmth. Her journey, from payroll management to bookkeeping, is a testament to her dedication and her drive to continually improve. She is a valued member of the team. Through her hard work and passion, Dawn continues to grow both personally and professionally, contributing to the success of Watson Knipe Accountants.
